Acne and Green Tea

But does it provide an effective herbal alternative to modern medication? Green tea is used by the Chinese as a traditional medicine to treat many ailments including acne and to improve general well-being.
There are only two herbal treatments that are known to be effective in treating acne and green tea is one of them. The answer seems to be ‘Yes'.
The results from this research study showed that green tea was just as good in treating acne as the benzoyl peroxide. a green tea cream was trailed against a 4% benzoyl peroxide solution on people suffering with moderate to severe acne. In a recent study by Jennifer Gan-Wong, M.D.
But benzoyl peroxide dries out skin causing itching or allergic reactions. Unlike green tea that has the added advantages of natural anti-bacterial properties and antioxidants, particularly epigallocatechin gallate which is 200 times more powerful than vitamin E at fighting free radicals.
Green tea also helps to reduce inflammation, hormonal activity and aids in detoxification - which is all good news for acne sufferers.
Green tea extract is an extremely versatile herbal supplement - it can be administered topically, often being used in creams, taken as a in the form of a pill or incorporated into your diet and drunk as a tea.
Tip: don't drink it with sugar, this will neutralize the worthwhile effects of the tea. This last method is very popular (Green Tea with Honeysuckle is often known as ‘Pimple Tea' in many Chinatowns) when drunk after a meal it aids digestion and helps to detoxify your system, getting rid of the toxins that can cause acne.
It seems that taking green tea for acne is a win-win situation… It has many beneficial properties which promote good all-round health with little or no known side effects and for the price, green tea it's definitely a herbal treatment that's worth trying.

Antioxidant In Green Tea Helps Fight Alzheimer's Disease

Scientists from the University of South Florida found that high doses of the antioxidant epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) found in green tea prevented Alzheimer's-like damage in the brains of mice bred to develop symptoms of this disease.
After several months of injecting the mice with pure EGCG on a daily basis, the nerve cells of the mice generated 54% less beta-amyloid proteins than not-treated mice. One of the possible causes of Alzheimer's disease is the harmful accumulation of beta-amyloid, which is just a very small protein fragment of a larger protein in brain cells.
The drinking of green tea alone would not be sufficient to have this particular effect. In the case of humans, we would need a daily dose of 1,500 to 1,600 mg of pure EGCG to achieve the similar effect experienced by the mice and this daily dose has been studied in healthy human volunteers and was found to be safe and well tolerated.

Does Green Tea Help With Fat Loss?

So, does green teal help with fat loss? After all, we get
disappointed time and time again from so-called miracle fat
loss supplements, products and training routines.
Have you had your green tea today?
Let's set aside all the wonderful health benefits for
now and take a look at green tea strictly as an aid
to fat loss. Does green tea help with fat loss and if so, how well?
A lot of studies (both human and animal) have shown
green tea has great potential for ramping up your
metabolism and burning fat off your body.
One study (see below) looked at the potential for green tea to stimulate thermogenesis and fat burning.
This study had 10 healthy men
spend periods of 24 hours in a metabolic testing chamber.
During these test sessions they took either
1) green tea extract that contained 150 mg of caffeine and 270 mg of
epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG - the key active ingredient
of green tea)
2) 150 mg of caffeine or
3) a placebo.
So what were the results? There was no difference in
thermogenesis between the caffeine group and the placebo
group.
The green tea extract increased 24 hour metabolism
by 4% compared to the placebo group. In this case, that
translates into about 80 calories a day.
What does this mean for fat loss? It means green tea
can definitely be used as an aid in your weight loss efforts.
A metabolism increase of 4% is significant. Now, that leads
me to the other side of weight loss products and supplements.
While green tea can play a real role in your weight loss
efforts, because of the way these products are advertised,
people have unrealistically high expectations of what these
products can do for them.
If you have a resting metabolic
rate of 2,000 calories per day, taking green tea can help
you burn an extra 80 calories a day. This isn't a lot
but does equal 7 pounds over a years time. And this is 7
pounds for doing nothing.
If you take a real fat loss aid like green tea (and there
are many weight loss products that don't work at all - that's
another entry), have an understanding of what you can expect.
And remember, you must have a complete fat loss plan in place.
If you've been gaining weight and are eating 100 more calories
a day than you burn and you add green tea, guess what? You
won't lose weight, you'll just slow down your weight gain.
Put an effective fat loss training program, consisting of
a weight training routine, high intensity cardio and proper
nutrition. Then, adding a quality supplement like green
tea may help accelerate your fat loss efforts.
And don't forget, unlike a lot of the weight loss programs that
don't even work, taking green tea has numerous health benefits above
and beyond the fat loss aspect.

An Introduction To Green Tea

Green tea is made from the plant called Camellia sinensis, which is steamed to make tea. An ancient Chinese proverb says, ""Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one."" The Chinese have had tremendous faith in the healing properties of green tea for over 4000 years, something the world is discovering today.
The action of the antioxidants in tea is more than that in over 21 fruits and vegetables, much more than garlic, spinach or even cabbage. Rich in fluoride, it helps fight tooth decay. New research is also proving it to lower high blood pressure by repressing angiotensin II.

It has been said to also cure rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol, cardiovascular diseases, infections and even impaired immune function. The tea helps in fighting cancer, especially cancer of the esophagus. Green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate, which is a powerful antioxidant with DNA repairing properties.
Many prefer green tea's flavor and aroma. Many are turning to organic green teas to reduce the harmful side effects of pesticides and fertilizers.
When you buy tea claiming to be organic, ensure that it is certified from an internationally established institute, such as IMO. Some of these teas even have eco-friendly packaging, such as those made of natural jute fiber, handmade paper and recycled board.
To make green tea, put a kettle of water on to boil. Add one teaspoon of green tea just before it reaches the boiling point and turn off the stove. Just cover it and leave for a while. If you boil the water, the taste will be astringent. You could have it plain or add milk and sugar, or lime and milk. You could drink up to 8-10 cups of tea per day. This will help with good health and slowing the aging process. However, do be aware that for some, the caffeine in the tea could result in insomnia. Green tea can be enjoyed both hot and cold.

Healthy Reasons Why You Should Drink Green Tea

Green tea has been used as a medicine in China for at least 4,000 years. The Chinese have been using it since ancient times for treating everything from headaches to depression. Did you ever realize that simply by drinking two cups of green tea can actually save you from so many health problems?
The process:
It is believed that they stimulate the spirit better than any other blend thus improving the abilities to think and meditate for prolonged periods without fatigue. Green teas are rich in vitamin C. This is very different to how green tea is processed today. It was then transferred out of the mould, dried in the sun, and baked to prevent rotting.

After that the tea was pressed and left to harden. Then this mud was placed into moulds. At the time of Tang Dynasty wild tea was gathered and then processed which involved steaming the tea on a bamboo tray and grinding the tea into a fine pulp called tea mud. China produces the world's finest green teas. The Chinese are said to be the first ones to discover tea.
Benefits of Green Tea:
It has also been effective in inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol. The reason being that green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly EGCG-Epigallocatechin Gallate which is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent.

According to a research it has been estimated that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent.
Apart from this green tea has been claimed to be good for:
• Stopping certain neurodegenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer
• Preventing/ treating cancer
• Burning fat and increasing metabolism
• Treating rheumatoid arthritis
• Treating Cognition
• Lowering high cholesterol levels
• Treating cardiovascular disease
• Treating infection
• For impaired immune function
• Prevent tooth decay
How much should one take?
Different researchers claim different estimation of how much green tea should one consume. Some say that drinking ten cups of green tea per day would help you stay cancer-free for three years longer than if you drink less than three cups a day .Meanwhile, another study suggests that drinking four or more cups of green tea per day could help prevent rheumatoid arthritis, or reduce symptoms in individuals already suffering from the disease. It is also reported that breast cancer spreads less quickly, in women with a history of drinking five cups or more of green tea daily. A University of California study on the cancer-preventative qualities of green tea concluded that you could probably attain the desired level of polyphenols by drinking merely two cups per day. As green tea does not have any known side effects so you can drink according to what you think is the right amount for you.
On the other hand black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, as a result of which the EGCG compound gets converted into other compounds which is not effective in preventing and fighting various diseases. Then they are rolled by hand to squeeze out excess moisture and to release flavor enzymes. On the other hand black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, as a result of which the EGCG compound from being oxidized.

Then they are rolled by hand to squeeze out excess moisture and to release flavor enzymes. The tea leaves used for green tea are steamed or pan-dried immediately after picking, arresting bacterial growth and thus preventing the EGCG compound from being oxidized. Green tea has so many health benefits though Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant so what sets green tea apart from the other teas is the way it is processed.
So, get your green tea today and enjoy your drink!!

The Benefits of Green Tea for Cancer and Leukemia

Green tea has long had many health benefits associated with it and its curative properties have been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years.
EGCG is considered to be the most active component in green tea and is the best researched of all the green tea polyphenols. Tea polyphenols are classified as catechins and green tea contains six primary catechin compounds: catechin, gallaogatechin, epicatechin, epigallocatechin, epicatechin gallate, and epigallocatechin gallate (also known as EGCG). The more the leaves are fermented, the lower the polyphenol content and the higher the caffeine content. Green tea is made from unfermented leaves and is reputed to contain the highest concentration of polyphenols, chemicals that act as powerful antioxidants.

Green tea, black tea and oolong tea are all made with the leaves of the Camellia sinensis bush.
Several studies have suggested that green tea and green tea extract have cancer-fighting abilities, possibly because the tea's concentration of antioxidants such as EGCG help minimize the cell damage that can lead to cancer.
EGCG (the key antioxidant in green tea) has been shown to kill cancer cells taken from leukaemia patients and put in a test tube. A recent study conducted at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota has demonstrated the benefits of green tea in adult sufferers of leukemia.
The fourth patient who did not show an improvement in her cancer overall, still exhibited an increase in her white blood cell count. In the months after they started drinking green tea or taking green tea extracts, three of them showed measurable improvements in their condition. All four patients had CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia). All four patients had started using green tea on their own last year, after hearing media reports about its health benefits.

All four patients had started using green tea on their own last year, after hearing media reports about its health benefits. Doctors at the clinic reported that four patients had started using green tea on their own last year, after hearing media reports about its health benefits.
However, over the next year the patient's lymph nodes steadily reduced in size. Swelling of the lymph nodes is one of the characteristic symptoms of CLL. In one case, a patient had been showing progressive swelling in her lymph nodes before she starting taking green tea capsules twice a day.
However, the benefit of EGCG over methotrexate is that it has far fewer side effects. Both work by blocking the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which is essential to the growth of tumour cells. Researchers have found that EGCG, the anti-cancer compound in green tea, works in a similar way to the anti-cancer drug methotrexate. Other research has come up with an explanation for why regular green tea drinkers have a low incidence of gastric and oesophageal cancers.
Women seeking to conceive or who are already pregnant are advised to consult their medical practitioner about the risks associated with drinking green tea. However, in a study conducted at Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program of Northern California in Oakland, researchers found that women who drank more than one half cup of caffeinated green tea every day doubled their odds of conceiving. This side effect could explain the increased risk of birth defects such as spina bifida.

The same study also showed that blocking the dihydrofolate reductase enzyme lowers folic acid levels.
