Green Tea and Your Health

Green tea has been used as for medical remedies in China since ancient times. It was said to have many health benefits and be a remedy for many ailments. It is also said that the Japanese owe their slim figures to green tea.
Today, scientist in Asia and the west are providing scientific evidence that green tea is the main cause of this.
Green tea has been shown to do many things including:
- Inhibit the growth of new cancer cells and kill existing cancer cells
- Promote weight loss helping the body burn up to 10 percent more body fat.
- Increase energy expenditure up to 4 percent.
- Prevent the oxidation of LDL cholesterol.
- Reduce the risk of colon, breast, and lung cancer.
- Boost the immune system.
- Have an anti-inflammatory effect making it a good supplement for those with arthritis.
- Help in the prevention of tooth decay.
Green Tea Differs from Other Types of Tea
By doing this the leaves remain green and active substances that are contained in the leaves keep their healthful qualities. Made from the plant so that oxidation of the leaves is prevented. What makes green tea different from other tea is the process in which it is made.
Side Effects of Green Tea
Thus making green tea one of the best supplements available. There are no reported harmful side effects in drinking green tea or taking green tea extract capsules.
Use of Green Tea
There are 2 ways of supplementing your diet with green tea:
- Drinking green tea: 2 to 3 cups daily.
- Green tea capsules or tablets: 2 capsules or tablets of green tea extract daily.

All About Green Tea And Polyphenols

-A discovery is said to be an accident meeting a prepared mind, Albert von Szent-Gyorgyi (1893 - 1986)
By the way, have I said how much I passionately enjoy green tea, the personal benefits I have witnessed from green tea and what a fantastic unearthing this ‘ancient medicine' is for modern western living? Or as I like to say… When the student is ready, the teacher shall appear!
After a good deal of research, I have found that there isn't any other food or drink in general consumption reported to have the innumerable health benefits that green tea possesses...none!
And did you know that green tea has been used as a medicine in China for over 4,000 years… When will we westerners learn? The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches and lethargia to depression.
For instance, in 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study demonstrating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol. At present, in both Asia and America, scientific research is providing a more than solid substantiation for the health benefits long associated with drinking green tea.
To abridge just a few of the medical conditions in which drinking green tea has proved to be helpful:
impaired immune system function
cardiovascular disease
cancer
rheumatoid arthritis
elevated cholesterol levels
numerous types of infections
muscle wasting diseases
Quite startling, don't you think? The preceding takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the foremost cause of heart attacks and stroke. It has also been exceedingly effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots.

EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. Green tea's ‘secret' lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).
For The Record Books…
In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas concluded that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is significantly low, even though in excess of seventy-five percent are smokers. The answer was found to lie in red wine, which contains resveratrol, a polyphenol that limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet. In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas concluded that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which may explain why the rate of heart disease than Americans.

The answer was found to lie in red wine, which contains resveratrol, a polyphenol that limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet. Correlates are being drawn between the effects of drinking green tea and the "French Paradox." For years, researchers were mystified by the fact that, despite consuming a diet rich in saturated fat, the French have a lower incidence of heart disease than Americans.
What sets green tea apart is the way it is processed. In particular, green tea leaves are processed from fermented leaves, which results in the EGCG being transformed into other compounds that are not nearly as effective in preventing and fighting various conditions and diseases. Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. So why don't other Chinese teas have similar earth-shaking health benefits?
Some Additional Benefits…
The latest evidence emerging is that green tea can even help dieters attain success more rapidly an efficiently. In November, 1999, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results of a study at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo.
Meanwhile, skin preparations containing green tea - from deodorants to creams - are starting to appear on the market showing positive effects. Just as its bacteria-destroying abilities can help prevent food poisoning, it can also kill the bacterium that causes dental plaque. Incidentally, green tea can even help prevent tooth decay!
The Potential Unsafe Effects?
in eight ounces of coffee and can you imagine the huge contrast in caffeine content between green tea and these ‘new' high-tech energy drinks that are currently being consumed by the masses with such ravenous voracity. in eight ounces of tea, compared to over one-hundred mg. of caffeine in six - eight ounces of tea, compared to over one-hundred mg.

On the other hand, green tea contains much less caffeine than coffee and most soda: there are approximately thirty to sixty mg. As of today, the only adverse side effect reported from drinking green tea is mild insomnia due to the fact that it contains caffeine.
Green Tea Polyphenols, What Are They You Ask?
Antioxidants have been proven to prevent damage caused by free radicals to DNA and other molecules. Specifically, tea polyphenols are compounds in tea leaves that are natural plant antioxidants.
How Do They Work?
In addition to antioxidant activity, these compounds may as previously mentioned have shown to reduce abnormal cell growth and inflammation; help the body get rid of cancer-causing agents; and restore communication between different cells in the body. Green tea polyphenols have corroborated several cancer preventive properties.
On Cancer… The Facts
Both EGCG and Polyphenon E are being tested for safety and efficacy in humans. Animal studies were inconclusive as to whether EGCG or Polyphenol E caused DNA mutations that might trigger cancer growth. A polyphenol mixture with EGCG, called Polyphenon E, has also shown cancer preventive properties in animals.

The purified component, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), prevented colon cancer, but did not prevent cancer of the esophagus in animal models. In animal studies, different tea extracts, tea polyphenol mixtures, purified tea components, and tea infusions as the sole drinking fluid have more consistently been shown to prevent cancer, including cancers of the colon, esophagus, liver, stomach, lung, breast, pancreas, and skin. Certain dietary, environmental, and population differences may account for these discrepancies. Some of the studies comparing green tea drinkers to non-green tea drinkers support the claim that green tea-drinking, in fact prevents certain types of cancer. The relationship between green tea consumption and human cancer has been studied in several different populations and at various cancer sites.
Slower Prostate Cancer Cell Growth Found From Consumption Of Green And Black Tea
Serum from men who drank comparable amounts of diet or regular soda showed no such slowing in cancer cell proliferation. More notably, the scientists found that prostate cancer cells grew more slowly when placed in a medium containing blood serum of men who had consumed either green or black tea for five days compared to serum collected before the men began their tea-drinking regimen. A study at The Experimental Biology 2004, in Washington, D.C., reported as part of the scientific program of the American Society of Nutritional Sciences, anti-tumor effects of green and black tea polyphenols in prostate tissue after a very limited consumption of the tea.
Consequently, Dr. Susanne Henning, UCLA Center for Human Nutrition, pronounced that the UCLA research team - a combination of nutrition scientists and urologists - focused on the feasible outcome of tea polyphenols on factors named polyamines and the enzymes responsible for the production of polyamines. Elevated levels of polyamines have been connected with malignancy in humans, including prostate cancer, and - since polyamines are current in prostate tissue in high concentration - are considered a logical target for chemoprevention of prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is one of the most widespread cancers among males in the United States, and more than a fourth of all those patients with prostate cancer are known to use alternative therapies, including green tea. This study suggests that both black and green tea are promising natural dietary supplements useful for chemoprevention of prostate cancer, according to Dr. Henning. She plans to investigate if this effect can be enhanced by consuming larger amounts of tea polyphenols in the form of green tea extract supplement capsules.
So If It's That Good, How Much Should I Drink?
Strangely enough, there are as many answers to this question as there are researchers investigating the beneficial properties of green tea per day stayed cancer-free for three years longer than men who drank less than three cups a day (there are approximately 240 - 320 mg of polyphenols in three cups of green tea).
Meanwhile, a study by Cleveland's Western Reserve University concluded that drinking four or more cups of green tea daily.
If you're a real aficionado, by all means imbibe more; but whether or not you'll derive added health benefits remains to be determined. But given all the evidence, it is almost certainly safe to plan on drinking four to five cups of green tea daily. I personally don't buy the hype that those that manufacture and sell green tea products are propagating…moderation is, like with all things probably your best bet!

So which is it? A University of California study on the cancer-preventative qualities of green tea concluded that you could probably attain the desired level of polyphenols by drinking merely two cups per day.
Okay, enough science… Let's all just relax and have a cup of green tea or if you like your beverages cold like I do, a glass of ‘iced' green tea.

Green Tea and Its Many Health Benefits

The Asian community has used different teas and herbal remedies since before the Great wall of China (over 3000 years ago) and green tea has stood out as one of its hallmark and most helpful constituents. Green tea has been used to treat everything from heart attacks, stroke to infections like sepsis (blood infection) and numerous other conditions and maladies. Many studies have been undertaken to research and extract the helpful and beneficial compounds in Green tea that exhibit these medicinal qualities.
Recent scientific studies listed in Chemical & Engineering News (produced by the American Chemical Society) show numerous benefits from the different compounds contained in green tea leaves (polyphenols like EGCG, a powerful antioxidant that inhibits the rapid growth of cancer cells without harming healthy cells).
Green tea has shown and evidenced antibacterial properties and more research in this area is needed. Studies done at Harvard and Cornell Universities on these polyphenols have shown a marked decline in carcinogen activity (up to 60% blocking reduction in oxidation capabilities) and even a biocide or antiseptic quality (hence the current research on green tea polyphenols and tooth and gum disease).
EGCG, due to its abilities to retard cancer with no known side effects is currently being researched to see if higher concentrations and / or more powerful synthetic derivatives could be used as a replacement for the current highly toxic chemotherapy. It is important to note, that although no cancer in these studies was completely cured, duration of survival and quality of life were increased in every circumstance. Green tea polyphenols inhibit and retard cancer growth in every study and form of cancer from liver cancer to uterine and breast cancer.
The polyphenols inhibit the absorption of cholesterol in the bloodstream. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells.

Many studies have linked green tea to lower risk for breast, pancreatic, colon, esophageal, and lung cancers. Other green tea findings included a study of smokers at the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson showing that four cups of decaffeinated green tea every day for four months provided some protection against potentially carcinogenic damage to DNA, as measured by the amount of LDL cholesterol in the digestive tract, which actually helps lower the amount of an enzyme in the urine. Study after study shows a vast reduction in onset and risk of various cancers and disease.
Just 4 cups of green tea daily gives the optimal amount of polyphenols for the best results. Basically, to sum this up, green tea has been proven to reduce the risk of cancer and retard the growth of cancer cells in every case and for this reason alone should be incorporated into every diet.

Green Tea And Weight Loss - Can Green Tea Boost Health And Help You Lose Weight?

There's an old Chinese adage that goes something like this, "Better to be deprived of food for three days, than tea for one." Although this is obviously not reliable nutritional information, it still goes to show how integral the tea plant was and still is to the Asian diet.
But that's not all that green tea is capable of. So technically, green does aid in weight loss. Researchers discovered that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burnt more calories than the opposing group that was only given caffeine or a placebo. Well, according to a 1999 study conducted at the University of Switzerland in Geneva, yes it can.

Researchers discovered that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea especially, help someone lose weight? Well, according to a 1999 study conducted at the University of Switzerland in Geneva, yes it can. But can tea, and green tea especially, help someone lose weight?
And according to one Japanese study, those who drank 10 cups or more of green tea a day. It's a mouthful, but this substance is a true workhorse that inhibits the growth of cancer cells as well as lowers one's LDL/VLDL cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels among a host of other things. Green tea's medicinal properties stem largely from a certain polyphenol or antioxidant, called epigallocatechin gallate.
Furthermore, these same women were also 60% less likely to develop urinary tract cancer. Furthermore, these same women were also 60% less likely to have cancers of the stomach, esophagus, mouth, colon, and rectum. In a study conducted for the Iowa Women's Health Study, researchers studied the tea drinking habits of over 35,000 postmenopausal women and found that those who drank more than two cups of tea a day were 32% less likely to have cancers of the stomach, esophagus, mouth, colon, and rectum.

Aside from drastically lowering incidence of stroke and blood cholesterol levels, increased green tea consumption can also work wonders elsewhere.
Lately green tea has also been analyzed for its ability to protect the body against the carcinogenic changes caused by cigarette smoke. But, this doesn't give you a license to smoke like a chimney. So put away the lighter.
The tea leaves are steamed, so that the epigallocatechin gallate remains intact, whereas in black and oolong tea, the leaves are fermented. The reason is that green tea is processed differently than oolong or black tea. Now, although some Chinese teas come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis, none are as potent as green tea.
Your body needs a breather. So, go ahead, quit stalling, and start brewing a pot. These health benefits mentioned in this article are only the tip of the iceberg. To some, green tea may serve only as a refreshing beverage, but to others, its medicinal properties serve a role similar to that of a multivitamin, as a sort of added "life-insurance".

Green Tea Side Effects During Pregnancy

Pregnant women would be wise to limit the amount of green tea they drink during pregnancy, and should be careful about taking any green tea supplements. Green tea is rich in antioxidants, and has a host of health benefits relating to dental health, blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and weight loss. But researchers have found, whilst examining the active constituent of green tea, the epigallocatechins, or EGCG for short, that it may affect the way the body uses folate. Folate is important for pregnant women as it prevents neural tube birth defects in babies.
Healthy people have this enzyme also - it is part of what is called the folate pathway, which is the pathway, or steps, the body takes to transform nutrients like folate into something that can be used to support its normal functions. Methotrexate is able to kill cancer cells by chemically bonding with an enzyme in the body called enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR). The problem of green tea during pregnancy is that the EGCG molecules are structurally similar to a compound called methotrexate.
But this chemical similarity means that the EGCG in green tea also binds with the enzyme DHFR, and when it does this, it inactivates this enzyme. When this enzyme is inactivated, the ability of the body to use folate is going to be affected. How much green tea is able to be consumed, or precisely how much folate absorption is affected, is unclear. Though the research article did say that drinking 2 cups of green tea a day can stop cancer cells (which is what methotrexate is targeting) from growing.
Two studies, one by Danish scientists who interviewed more than 88,000 pregnant women, and the other by the Yale University School of Medicine, had similar findings on caffeine during pregnancy. The good news on caffeine drank during pregnancy, from coffee and tea, is that a moderate amount is fine.
The concerns over caffeine were that it would lead to low birth weight or miscarriage. And this is still true of a very high daily intake of coffee. The Yale team found that drinking about 600mg of caffeine a day, which is about 6 cups of coffee, would reduce birth weight to levels that were clinically significant. The rate at which birth weight was reduced was established at being 28 grams per 100 mg, or 1 cup, of coffee per day. But they emphasized that this would not be significant for moderate caffeine consumption.
The Danish study found that drinking 8 cups or more of coffee per day (this would be about 16 cups or more of tea), would increase the chances of miscarriage, or stillbirth, by 60% compared to women who did not drink caffeine. They also found that moderate coffee or tea drinking did not pose significant risks. For those drinking half a cup to 3 cups of coffee a day, the risk of fetal death was 3% higher compared to non-caffeine drinkers. And for those drinking 4 to 7 cups of coffee a day, the risk increases to 33%. One cup of coffee equals about 2 cups of tea when comparing caffeine levels. The recommended amount of coffee drunk is up to 3 cups daily, or 6 cups of tea, by the UK food agency.

The Health Benefits of Tea

I don't even know if there was much talk of doing what was good for us, in terms of eating and drinking. There was never any talk, at least in our household, of the benefits of tea or coffee, for that matter. With the instant coffee, one only had to add hot water in a cup, and then let the tea steep from the bag into the hot water for a few moments.

My mother drank instant coffee that one purchased in supermarkets. When I was a child, many years ago, very few people who I knew of, were aware of natural substances that were good for a person's health.
Unlike other sweeteners, honey has vitamins, minerals and amino acids as well as antioxidants." Research has shown that teas (not just green tea, but all teas) have antioxidants that can inhibit the growth of cancer cells and support cardiovascular health. While more research is needed, this information provides promising evidence of the beneficial properties of tea." Also, according to Globe Trends, Inc., "...tea sweetened with honey. No.1/2005, "Researchers of the American Heart Association of New Orleans found that black tea may help to relax and expand artieries, therefore increasing blood flow to the heart.

According to GlobeTrends, Inc., Vol. We are being informed that there are many benefits of tea. Now, we are kind of going back to nature, with all the research that has been done in the last several years.
Now that research has proven that tea is a good thing to drink--good for you, and so tasty with honey, which is also so good for you, we will continue and should continue to drink tea to better our health! In my youth, we never knew that some of which we were doing were the right things to do. There has been much research, and researchers will continue in their quest to find more benefits of all types of teas.

13 Health Benefits of Green Tea

Green tea has been enjoyed by people in China and Japan for thousands of years. Over the time it has become widely known in the West.
I want you to have exactly the same feeling I have, so here are the benefits that you get while sipping delicious cup of tea. I not only enjoy the taste of it but I also get the moral satisfaction knowing that I am doing something right and extremely healthy for my body. And believe me after I've learned all the health benefits of green tea, I get completely different feeling every time I drink it.

A lot of people nowadays have heard that green tea benefits the overall health, but not a lot know why exactly.
Green tea contains anti-oxidants that:
1. Helps to prevent cancer.
The is some strong evidence that green tea included in you every day diet can reduce bladder, colon, esophageal, pancreas, rectum, and stomach cancer up to 60%. An antioxidant known as "epigallocatechin gallate" (EGCG for short) is at least 100 more times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E at protecting cells from harmful influence.
The amazing thing about it that EGCG it not only inhibits the growth of new cancer cells it also kills some of the existing cancer sells without harming the healthy ones.
2. Lowers "bad" cholesterol (known as LDL) and improves the ratio of "good" cholesterol (known as HDL). It explains why tea-drinkers can eat almost twice the foods containing cholesterol as those who don't drink green tea, but still have an equal cholesterol count.
It takes on added importance if you consider that thrombosis is one of the main causes of strokes and heart attacks. Stops the unnatural formation of blood cloth which if not taken care of will cause thrombosis. 3.
Reduces high blood pressure by repressing angiotensin II which causes constriction of the blood vessels causing high blood pressure. 4.
5. Lowers blood sugar (polyphenols and polysaccharides are the two main antioxidants are especially effective in lowering blood sugar). That helps prevent and relieve type-two diabetes.
6. Protects liver against toxins like alcohol and chemicals in cigarette smoke.
7. Promotes oral health by suppress the process of plaque formation and destroys the bacteria that forms plaque. It also destroys bacteria that causes bad breath, so after eating something sweet I suggest you drink a cup of green tea.
8. Destroys free radicals that cause aging.
9. Boosts your immune system function (because of its high concentration of polyphenols and flaveboids).
It also kills seven strains of food poisoning bacteria including clostridium, botulus and staphylococcus (which makes it a good treatment for diarrhea). Recent studies show that green tea inhibits the spread of disease, speeds up recovery from cold and flu. Possess antibacterial and antiviral properties.

10.
Helps your body to maintain healthy fluid balance and relieve fatigue and stress often caused by dehydration. 11.
12. Blocks main receptors that produce allergic reactions.
Stimulates metabolism, calorie burning process and is wildly being used as an important part of a healthy diet. 13.
Black tea during fermentation process loses most of its medical benefits. It is important to know that black tea, even though it comes from the same plant as a green tea, will not give you the same benefits.
It is better to let your tea steep for about 4-5 minutes before drinking it. All the decaffeinated, ready-to-drink bottled or instant teas will give you very little of natural health compounds. The best way to preserve all the disease-fighting nutritions is to drink your tea freshly brewed.
After all it is a rare case when something that good for our health can be also that delicious. I hope that after reading this article you will include a cup of green tea in your daily ratio.

Why Choose Green Tea Diet And Are There Any Downsides?

Due to the popularity of recent findings, green tea diet has almost become a must for every person wanting to lose weight. The addition of green tea into diet pills and weight loss supplements is perhaps spurred by reports of harmful side-effects of other drugs like ephedra.
Why choose green tea diet?
For four thousand years, this type of dieting has been used all throughout Asia as a beneficial health and medicinal drink. It is different from all other tea diets because its liquid is extracted by steaming the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant as opposed to full oxidation. In this way, the tea manages to preserve a lot more antioxidants and keep them intact for the body to use.
Green tea diet is an excellent source of polycatechin polyphenols, a group of antioxidants that act on free radicals. These free radicals have harmful effects on the body since they are the major causes of diseases and aging. With green tea's polycatechin polyphenols, a person has a better chance of avoiding ailments and keeping himself healthy for a much longer period of time.
Another antioxidant in green tea is also being studied as a potential cure for cancer. Epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG has been discovered to destroy cancer cells while keeping surrounding healthy cells unharmed.
The EGCG also acts with another compound, caffeine (a small amount of this is found in green tea). The interaction of these two compounds causes green tea to promote thermogenesis in the body.
This is roughly equivalent to losing more than 10 pounds of weight a month. It has been noted by a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that with the consumption of green tea, the body's total 24-hour energy expenditure is increased by up to four percent.
Green tea diet helps increase the body's metabolic rates too. With its thermogenic properties, it is only natural that it can also promote faster metabolism of fats and sugars. Excess glucose found in the body is turned into fats by the hormone insulin. Because green tea has an inhibiting effect on insulin, it therefore helps keep sugar from being stored as fats and instead, send them directly into the muscles for immediate use.
The downside to a green tea diet
Although this type of diet has a reputation for boosting health, scientific proofs of its health benefits are still somewhat mixed. However, in an article published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, American researchers collaborated with their Chinese counterparts to discuss the beneficial effects of green tea on cholesterol levels.
Using 240 men and women (average age 55) who possess mild to moderately high LDL cholesterol levels, the researchers instructed them to retain their usual low-fat diet, green tea diet intake, and activity levels. After twelve weeks, it was found that those who consumed green tea with their regular meals lost more than fifteen percent of their total LDL cholesterol levels.
Although the researchers never explained how the tea may influence cholesterol levels, previous studies have shown that certain compounds in green tea play a role in reducing the amount of cholesterol absorbed by the body, increasing amount of cholesterol excreted, and thus keeping cholesterol from being stored in the liver.
They found that green tea diet has no significant effect on the cholesterol profiles of their subjects. Their results were contradictory. Subsequent studies were made to test the findings of the first group of researchers.
There is no such thing as a miracle diet. Green tea diet, like all other diets, needs a lot of work and input from those who enroll in it. It required both discipline and heart for it to make any significant impact on your weight loss goals.

Green Tea Diet For Weight Loss

I will keep only the Chinese people's green tea experience for later on in my article. That's why I will skip the past and go to present days. Green Tea has a long history, but I am sure everyone is aware of it, and is already bored to death reading about it.
What is Green Tea Diet?
You may take green tea as a drink, pill or weight loss patch. A Green Tea Diet is the regular intake of green tea.
Health benefits of Green Tea Diet
Although green tea has been used for more than 4000 years in China for treating a wide variety of ailments, I will list some recent medical and scientific researches into the health benefits of green tea diet in short:
+ anti aging effect
+ refreshing effect
+ lowers high cholesterol levels
+ lowers blood sugar level
+ promotes dental health
Clinical tests have shown that Green Tea:
+ prevents cancer by inhibiting the growth of new cancer cells and killing existing ones + lowers high blood pressure and prevents hypertension + lowers risk of atherosclerosis + protects the heart and prevents cardiovascular disease + thins blood and prevents thrombosis, which is one of the causes of heart attacks and stroke
Green Tea Diet also helps you:
+ protect against Alzheimer's disease + prevent rheumatoid arthritis + improve insulin sensitivity in Type 2 Diabetes + improve immune system defenses to fight against viruses (such as flu) + promotes dental health
What makes green tea diet so special?
Green tea extract is one of the best antioxidants. It's all about the great antioxidant effect of the green tea extract.
Those free radicals are result from metabolism and have bad oxidative effect that can seriously damage your body cells. The antioxidant effect of green tea extract is due to the green tea flavonoid polyphenols (also called bioflavonoids) that protect your body sells from the damaging free radicals.
The super antioxidant - Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG)
The polyphenols EGCG antioxidant is the most powerful compound of green tea extract. It is 100 times more potent antioxidant than Vitamin C and E.
EGCG also may prevent thrombosis, which is one of the causes of heart attacks and stroke. Clinical tests have shown that EGCG inhibits the growth of new cancer cells and kills some existing ones without damaging the normal cells.
Green Tea weight loss
To get rid of fat you either need to lower you food intake (follow a diet plan), or increase your energy expenditure (do exercising).
That makes Green Tea Diet a very smart choice for all people who hate strict dieting, or are tired of starving, or everyday exercising. The green tea weight loss effect is due to the EGCG antioxidant that increases energy expenditure and accelerates fat burning.
Green tea weight loss diet is a great way for everyone to lose weight easily and naturally, without any negative side effects.

Kombucha Ancient Healing Tea From Fermented Mushroom

The use of microorganisms for medicinal use is certainly not new.
Mainstream antibiotics are derived from microorganisms (such as penicillin) and pathogens (such as polio or smallpox) play a role in vaccine development. And we use the friendly organisms in acidophilus (found in yogurt, kefir and tablets) to restore the beneficial flora in our intestines.
Kombucha, or Mandarin Mushroom Tea is a specially fermented tea that you can make at home with a simple recipe. You need a "baby" Kombucha to begin and you can either buy the baby, or get one free from an avid Kombucha tea drinker. Each mushroom comes with step-by-step instructions, or you can get written instructions from the person who is giving you a baby Kombucha mushroom.
It is a flat, dark, pancake looking mushroom and looks very odd in the bowel as it ferments. Kombucha tea, when fermented properly, offers a host of beneficial microorganisms. Although the Kombucha mushroom has been around, and used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years, it was considered an exotic Chinese Mushroom until this century.
Before the days of modern food preparation and packaging for commercial resale, fermenting food was how people preserved foods. Lactic acid fermentation was the most popular way to preserve food. Vegetables, cheese, cured meats, and other whole, unrefined foods were kept down in the basement, especially in the winter. These old basements were not completely sealed from air, light or moisture. Preserving food via fermentation today would be considered primitive by today's standards. When we lost our old fashioned ability to maintain the active constituents of raw food by lactic acid fermentation, our rate of cancer and other diseases skyrocketed.
Research into lactic acid's ability to kill cancer cells in vitro, and its ability to work with beneficial flora in the intestines has emerged as a new science once again. Our own bodies manufacture some lactic acid, as a weapon against disease, but there was a time when our natural diet supplied lactic acid too.
What are some of the health benefits of consuming foods rich in lactic acid?
From acetylcholine, we develop choline, which is an important brain chemical and is involved in healthy blood pressure. · The lactic acid fermentation process promotes the development of acetylcholine which promotes healthy neurotransmitters, the cells that relay nervous signals across the body.
· Lactic acid fermented foods are rich in enzymes and Vitamins A, C, and B. Enzyme deficiency is the root cause of many diseases.
· Lactic Acid makes the bowel environment very unfriendly toward viruses and bacteria and aids in the healthy expulsion of such pathogens.
It usually takes about 4-7 days for a Kombucha mushroom to produce the ordinary looking tea. I find the tea very refreshing…a cross between bubbly champagne and apple cider. Most people find it very tasty too. It may not be a cure all, but it is a healthy drink for most people.
It probably seems very odd that Kombucha tea is made with white sugar instead of raw, whole sugar. But the mushroom consumes and completely alters the sugar in a few days during the fermentation process. And the mushroom does not seem to produce any babies if you use unrefined sugar. I have not found a naturopath to advise against diabetics using the tea, but if you are diabetic maybe you should check with your local naturopath or licensed clinical nutritionist who is schooled in Chinese mushroom herbology. I have seen Kombucha successfully used in candida yeast support therapy and it does not seem to harm anyone who has a lactose allergy. Many Chinese Medicine doctors are familiar with Mandarin Kombucha tea, but most westerners are not.
Kombucha tea drinkers swear by it. It appears to help a wide range of health problems. And we already know that all teas are very healthy drinks.
Bubbly anyone? So why not give Kombucha a try?

Green Tea and The "Asian Paradox"

While it is almost certainly not a cure, however, many studies appear to show that lifelong green tea drinking does in fact reduce the risk of cancer in later life. Of all the controversial claims about green tea's health benefits, the one that draws the most scepticism is the claim that it could be a cure for cancer.
The biggest piece of evidence in support of this theory is known as the ‘Asian paradox'. The Asian paradox, according to researchers at Yale, is that Asia has very high levels of cigarette smoking, yet lower cancer rates than Europe or America. The researchers believe that the difference between the places lies in the Asians' consumption of large amounts of green tea (over a litre a day on average).
This is some of the most encouraging research yet, as methotrexate is a drug with many unpleasant side effects, and replacing it with green tea could work very well. Studies at Murcia University in Spain found that a chemical in green tea called EGCG is very similar to the cancer drug methotrexate, in that it appears to kill cancer cells in the same way. Other studies have supported this view: one study comparing elderly Japanese people who drank green tea with ones who didn't found that the green tea drinkers tended to live a few years longer.
Hopefully, over the next few decades, there will be more interest in investigating the health benefits of green tea, and we will finally get our answer. The state of the research overall is inconclusive, as few drug companies are interested in funding studies into something that is seen as ‘alternative' medicine, the testing is left to interested but under-funded universities. However, the unfortunate counterpoint to all this is that very large quantities of green tea have actually been found to cause cancer in lab rats, suggesting that too much green tea can be worse for you than none at all - perhaps a similar effect to the one red wine has.

Healthy Reasons Why You Should Drink Green Tea

Green tea has been used as a medicine in China for at least 4,000 years. The Chinese have been using it since ancient times for treating everything from headaches to depression. Did you ever realize that simply by drinking two cups of green tea can actually save you from so many health problems?
The process:
It is believed that they stimulate the spirit better than any other blend thus improving the abilities to think and meditate for prolonged periods without fatigue. Green teas are rich in vitamin C. This is very different to how green tea is processed today. It was then transferred out of the mould, dried in the sun, and baked to prevent rotting.

After that the tea was pressed and left to harden. Then this mud was placed into moulds. At the time of Tang Dynasty wild tea was gathered and then processed which involved steaming the tea on a bamboo tray and grinding the tea into a fine pulp called tea mud. China produces the world's finest green teas. The Chinese are said to be the first ones to discover tea.
Benefits of Green Tea:
It has also been effective in inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol. The reason being that green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly EGCG-Epigallocatechin Gallate which is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent.

The reason being that green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly EGCG-Epigallocatechin Gallate which is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. According to a research it has been estimated that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent.
Apart from this green tea has been claimed to be good for:
• Stopping certain neurodegenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer
• Preventing/ treating cancer
• Burning fat and increasing metabolism
• Treating rheumatoid arthritis
• Treating Cognition
• Lowering high cholesterol levels
• Treating cardiovascular disease
• Treating infection
• For impaired immune function
• Prevent tooth decay
How much should one take?
Different researchers claim different estimation of how much green tea should one consume. Some say that drinking ten cups of green tea per day would help you stay cancer-free for three years longer than if you drink less than three cups a day .Meanwhile, another study suggests that drinking four or more cups of green tea per day could help prevent rheumatoid arthritis, or reduce symptoms in individuals already suffering from the disease. It is also reported that breast cancer spreads less quickly, in women with a history of drinking five cups or more of green tea daily. A University of California study on the cancer-preventative qualities of green tea concluded that you could probably attain the desired level of polyphenols by drinking merely two cups per day. As green tea does not have any known side effects so you can drink according to what you think is the right amount for you.
On the other hand black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, as a result of which the EGCG compound gets converted into other compounds which is not effective in preventing and fighting various diseases. Then they are rolled by hand to squeeze out excess moisture and to release flavor enzymes. On the other hand black and oolong tea leaves are made from fermented leaves, as a result of which the EGCG compound from being oxidized.

Then they are rolled by hand to squeeze out excess moisture and to release flavor enzymes. The tea leaves used for green tea are steamed or pan-dried immediately after picking, arresting bacterial growth and thus preventing the EGCG compound from being oxidized. Green tea has so many health benefits though Green, oolong, and black teas all come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant so what sets green tea apart from the other teas is the way it is processed.
So, get your green tea today and enjoy your drink!!

The Benefits of Green Tea for Cancer and Leukemia

Green tea has long had many health benefits associated with it and its curative properties have been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years.
EGCG is considered to be the most active component in green tea and is the best researched of all the green tea polyphenols. Tea polyphenols are classified as catechins and green tea contains six primary catechin compounds: catechin, gallaogatechin, epicatechin, epigallocatechin, epicatechin gallate, and epigallocatechin gallate (also known as EGCG). The more the leaves are fermented, the lower the polyphenol content and the higher the caffeine content. Green tea is made from unfermented leaves and is reputed to contain the highest concentration of polyphenols, chemicals that act as powerful antioxidants.

Green tea, black tea and oolong tea are all made with the leaves of the Camellia sinensis bush.
Several studies have suggested that green tea and green tea extract have cancer-fighting abilities, possibly because the tea's concentration of antioxidants such as EGCG help minimize the cell damage that can lead to cancer.
EGCG (the key antioxidant in green tea) has been shown to kill cancer cells taken from leukaemia patients and put in a test tube. A recent study conducted at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota has demonstrated the benefits of green tea in adult sufferers of leukemia.
The fourth patient who did not show an improvement in her cancer overall, still exhibited an increase in her white blood cell count. In the months after they started drinking green tea or taking green tea extracts, three of them showed measurable improvements in their condition. All four patients had CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia). All four patients had started using green tea on their own last year, after hearing media reports about its health benefits.

All four patients had started using green tea on their own last year, after hearing media reports about its health benefits. Doctors at the clinic reported that four patients had started using green tea on their own last year, after hearing media reports about its health benefits.
However, over the next year the patient's lymph nodes steadily reduced in size. Swelling of the lymph nodes is one of the characteristic symptoms of CLL. In one case, a patient had been showing progressive swelling in her lymph nodes before she starting taking green tea capsules twice a day.
However, the benefit of EGCG over methotrexate is that it has far fewer side effects. Both work by blocking the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which is essential to the growth of tumour cells. Researchers have found that EGCG, the anti-cancer compound in green tea, works in a similar way to the anti-cancer drug methotrexate. Other research has come up with an explanation for why regular green tea drinkers have a low incidence of gastric and oesophageal cancers.
Women seeking to conceive or who are already pregnant are advised to consult their medical practitioner about the risks associated with drinking green tea. However, in a study conducted at Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program of Northern California in Oakland, researchers found that women who drank more than one half cup of caffeinated green tea every day doubled their odds of conceiving. This side effect could explain the increased risk of birth defects such as spina bifida.

The same study also showed that blocking the dihydrofolate reductase enzyme lowers folic acid levels.

The Health Benefits of Green Tea - Fact or Fairytale?

The Case For Green Tea
Here are some examples. The Chinese have been using it for thousands of years to treat everything from headaches to depression and some of those claims are now starting to be verified by scientific research. Green tea devotees claim that is has many health benefits.
In addition, researchers at the University of Purdue concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. Cancer: The Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of a study in 1994 which indicated that drinking green tea reduced the risk of oesophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. 1.
It improves the ratio of HDL cholesterol (that's the good kind) to LDL cholesterol (the bad kind). Cholesterol: Some research indicates that drinking green tea can lower your overall cholesterol levels. 2.
In other words the green tea accentuated the stimulant properties of caffeine which raise the metabolic rate. University researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo. Weight Loss: The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the results in 1999 of a study conducted at the University of Geneva in Switzerland.

3.
Tooth Decay: Green tea kills the bacteria that causes dental plaque, thus helping to prevent tooth decay. 4.
Skin preparations containing green tea - from deodorants to creams - are starting to appear on the market. Infection: Green tea's anti-bacterial properties mean that it can also be used to fight infections and to prevent food poisoning. 5.
What Is Green Tea's Magic Ingredient?
EGCG has also been shown to be effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots that are the leading cause of heart attacks and strokes. EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant that can inhibit, or even stop, the growth of cancer cells without harming normal healthy tissue. The benefits you can get from green tea arise because it is rich in beneficial antioxidants, in particular EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate).
EGCG is twice as powerful as another beneficial antioxidant called resveratrol. This antioxidant occurs in red wine and is the main reason why the French have a lower incidence of heart disease than Americans, even though they have a diet rich in fats, dairy produce and red meat.
The fermentation means the EGCG is converted into other compounds that are not as beneficial. The other part of the secret behind green tea is that the leaves of the same Camellia sinensis plant but the leaves are fermented during processing.
The Case Against Green Tea
On the other hand, the US Food and Drug Administration issued a report in May 2006 stating there is no credible scientific evidence that drinking green tea reduces the risk of heart disease.
The FDA report said it reviewed 105 articles and other publications submitted as part of the petition, but it could not find any evidence to support claims of the beverage's health benefits.
Are There Any Harmful Side Effects?
As you could reasonably expect, if you drink too much green tea you may suffer from insomnia and to date, insomnia is the only negative side effect reported from drinking green tea. Green tea does contain caffeine, however it contains less than coffee - approx one third to just over half the amount for the same weight.
Better put the kettle on! So it seems you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by drinking it. Green tea can certainly do you no harm, except to keep you awake at night if you drink too much, whether because of the caffeine or the frequent trips to the bathroom. Research is now steadily accumulating scientific evidence that proves these benefits.

Green tea has been recognized for its curative properties for thousands of years.

The Many Benefits of Green Tea Extract

The Benefits of Green Tea Extract: Anti-Aging, Anti-Cancer, Weight Control
Green tea: Here are just a few. One of the great advancements in nutrition in the twenty-first century is the scientific confirmation of the many benefits of green tea extract.
Lowers cholesterol
Slows arthritis
Prevents the growth of cancer cells
Assists weight loss
What accounts for the health benefits of green tea extract? Over 1,800 scientific studies have found that the active constituents in green tea are powerful antioxidants. These are called polyphenols (catechins) and flavonols. Epigallocatechin gallate (you can just call it EGCG) is the most powerful of these antioxidants.
Milligram for milligram, EGCG has 25 to 100 times the antioxidant power of vitamins C and E. A cup of green tea has more antioxidants than a serving of broccoli, spinach, carrots or strawberries.

These abundant antioxidants power the benefits of green tea extract. They keep DNA intact and they stabilize the membranes of cells. These effects of green tea make it a powerful support in many health conditions. Let's look at the benefits of green tea supplements in more detail.

Green tea has been shown to lower "bad" LDL cholesterol and serum triglyceride levels.

Who would have imagined that simple green tea could be as potent as Lipitor or Zocor or Crestin with none of their side effects? Scientific studies show that middle-aged men and women in Japan who drink 2 or more cups of green tea a day almost always have normal cholesterol. Scientists have also recently reported that if you drink green tea after you eat a fatty food, less cholesterol will go into you bloodstream.

And if you have high cholesterol when you begin taking green tea supplements, your body will convert less of it into a form that clogs your arteries.

Green tea protects your joints against osteoarthritis.

This is one of the least known but most beneficial effects of green tea extract. Green tea prevents inflammation. When there is less inflammation, there is less wear and tear on your joints.

Green tea prevents the growth of cancer cells.

The EGCG in green tea prevents cancer cells from growing by binding to a specific enzyme. This health benefit of green tea is especially important in cancers of the prostate, breast, and lung.

Researchers studied two groups of men who a pre-cancerous condition of the prostate. One consumed the equivalent of 12 to 15 cups of green tea a day. One did not. One year later, 30% of the men who did not consume green tea supplements developed prostate cancer. Only 3% of the men who took green tea supplements developed cancer.

Another of the benefits of green tea extract is support for women who have breast cancer. Green tea provides chemicals that bind estrogen. This hormone is not then free to stimulate breast cancer cells.

Women who consume the greatest amount of green tea before menopause have the least severe forms of breast cancer when the disease occurs. Women who drink green tea are less likely to have recurrences of breast cancer after treatment. And most important of all, women who consume green tea are 50% less likely to develop breast cancer at all.

Another of the benefits of green tea extract is protection against lung cancer.
The Japanese have both the highest rate of smoking and the lowest rate of lung cancer in the developed world. Japanese smokers who consume a lot of green tea seem to be protected against lung cancer.

And green tea can even help you lose weight. In a clinical trial, men eating a high-fat diet were given enough green tea provide the caffeine in a single cup of coffee. Although this amount of caffeine has no effect on weight loss, when the caffeine comes from green tea, it is highly significant.

The green tea supplement boosted the number of calories burned by 4.5%. While this is just 135 calories a day, the study showed that taking green supplements could help the average man on a high-fat diet lose 18 lbs (8 kg) in a year's time. It could help the average woman on a high-fat diet lose 11 pounds (5 kg). This is without eating less or exercising more.

How Can I Take Green Tea?

The benefits of green tea extract are greatest if you take green tea supplements rather than drink green tea. A study in the December 2004 edition of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition confirmed that green supplements get more antioxidants into your bloodstream that drinking green tea. Two capsules of green tea extract a day can provide all the benefits of 20 cups of green tea-all you need to support even difficult health conditions.

Green tea is safe and effective. Take 1 to 3 capsules of green extract every day. It is better to take green tea supplements in the morning or afternoon rather than at night. In the unlikely event of stomach upset, take with food.

The Immune Enhancing Effects of Tea - Theanine

Mammals have two largely independent immune systems in their bodies. Although these immune systems do interact, they serve two very different roles in protecting us against pathogens, including cancer and infectious diseases.
The faster an immune response can be mounted against a specific pathogen, the more immunological protection it provides. to pre-activate this genetic or adaptive immune response to specific pathogens. This is why vaccines exist...

to pre-activate this genetic or adaptive immune response to specific pathogens. This is why vaccines exist... to pre-activate this genetic or adaptive immune response to specific pathogens. This is why vaccines exist... to pre-activate this genetic or adaptive immune response to specific pathogens.

This is why vaccines exist... to pre-activate this genetic or adaptive immune response to specific pathogens. This is why vaccines exist... This immune response is highly specific, but it is also very slow to respond to specific pathogens.

Most people are generally familiar with the immune system that is activated by vaccines.
Herein lies the problem. If a person has never been exposed, for example, to a particular influenza virus strain, the specific immune response to this virus may be too slow to protect us against death. This is why flu vaccines are changed every year. The key word is specificity. Yesterday's flu virus may not protect us from Bird Flu or another influenza strain.
Yet, there is another immune system that MAY protect us against All strains of Flu or other pathogens without vaccines.
Think about it. If we HAD to be vaccinated against all pathogens that we encounter, every child over 2 years of age would be dead. Every watch a child eat dirt or stick a dirty object into their mouths? Yet these children do NOT die. There is a reason for this.
Our secondary immune system is called the innate or natural immune system. It encompasses a wide diversity of cells, including natural killer cells, gamma delta T lymphocytes, neutrophils and macrophages. This system is our first line of immunological defense against cancer, and infectious pathogens. Usually, this immune response works just fine. If it didn't, no one would survive childhood.
These immune cells are not activated by immunization. They have the magical ability to recognize and react to the presence of pathogens, including cancer cells, by non-specific means. If you read the scientific literature, it is simply amazing how the innate immune response works and how effective it is in protecting us from...well just about everything.
Although we can activate the genetic immune system by vaccination, can we do the same with the innate or natural immune response? Apparently so.
Finally, a natural immune enhancer. Theanine, an amino acid which is 50% of the dry weight of tea leaves, was found to prime a major component of our innate immune system, gamma delta T lymphocytes. Three years ago, a scientific study published in the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences made the news throughout America.
This article can be read online if you are interested.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/queryd.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd;=Retrieve&dopt;=AbstractPlus&list;_uids=12719524&itool;=pubmed_docsum
Gamma delta T cells are a special population of immune cells that increase by 50 fold when we are confronted with bacteria, fungi and viruses. Theanine primes these lymphocytes so they can immediately respond if confronted with a bacterial, fungal or viral infection.
So drink your tea on a regular basis or take some theanine capsules, sold in health food stores. The faster our immune system reacts, the more protection it provides us. In the presence of theanine breakdown products, our immune system rapidly responds to these pathogens if we encounter them again.

Recall antigens are simply bacterial, fungal or viral products to which we have been previously exposed. Interestingly, this study shows that drinking green or back tea increases immune reactivity to recall antigens.
In the last year, scientists found that this very same population of gamma delta T cells was much more important for our immunological well being than we previously recognized.
These cells act like APC or antigen presenting cells, much like dendritic cells. Gamma delta T cells, once activated or primed (by theanine?) can further activate our normal alpha beta T cells, CD4 and CD8 T cells which produce antibody and attack cancer and virally infected cells.
This study was published in the prestigious journal Science.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/queryd.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd;=Retrieve&dopt;=AbstractPlus&list;_uids=15933162&itool;=pubmed_docsum
In the past, no one has ever linked the activation to our genetic immune response to innate immune responses. This study shows that both our immune responses are interrelated. If the gamma delta T cells of our innate immune response can be activated by metabolites of theanine from tea, these cells can further activate our genetic immune response, including the production of specific antibody and cellular immune responses against cancer cells, virally infected cells and other pathogens. And that ain't bad!!!
In a world paralyzed by fears of Bird Flu, cancer and other pathogens, it is important that we keep our immune systems primed. So learn to love tea or take theanine supplements.
Not everything in life has to be complicated.

Green Tea and Cholesterol Facts

A green and lush oasis in the middle of a scorching dessert. A cool breeze on a hot summer night. A bright light in the end of a cold and dark tunnel. Green tea and cholesterol.
You can browse and search the Internet for topics on green tea and cholesterol and would come up with hundred of hits. For the millions and millions of people suffering from high cholesterol green tea may be that light.
Cholesterol, triglycerides, the protein apoB in LDLs, are words dreaded by humans of the modern age. This new century is expected to become the century of medical miracles, the green tea, lowly as it may sound looks very promising as several researches have shown. This could be the decade of green tea and cholesterol.
In another study by the University of Kansas determined that EGCG may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent are smokers. Another research done by the University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. The Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. Several studies have shown that the antioxidants are present in green tea.

More good news is it's not just green tea and cholesterol; it's also green tea and cancer.
And more good news! It's not just green tea and cholesterol; it's also green tea and high blood pressure. Habitually drinking 5 to 10 cups a day of green tea lowers high blood pressure.
For more that 4,000 years the Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. So it's not just green tea and cholesterol; it's also green tea and depression!
Drinking green also is reported to be helpful with rheumatoid arthritis, Cardiovascular disease, infection, and impaired immune function.
Green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a good anti-cancer element. Polyphenol limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet.
There's more! It's not just green tea and cholesterol; it's also green tea and weight loss. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a report that found out that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine.
How about green tea and tooth decay anyone? Its bacteria-destroying abilities kill the bacteria that cause dental decay. So it's not just green tea and cholesterol, it's also green tea and bacteria.
Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized while black and oolong tea leaves are made from dried or fermented leaves, which causes loss of EGCG. But why green? All of these come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant.

As we all know there are 3 types of tea, green, oolong and black. Why is it that it's green tea and cholesterol not oolong tea or black tea?
We should have learned speaking mandarin or fukien a long time ago and got to know green tea and cholesterol lowering the Chinese way.
There is more to green tea and cholesterol, search the web and get to know more of the heath benefits you may get from green tea. Does anyone know how to say green tea in Chinese?
